My vision
Streets that connect us, not just carry us.
The problem
Safety fixes wait on politics. A speed hump needs an alderperson’s sign-off, so neighborhoods without a connection wait longest. And streets designed only for moving cars leave little room for the places where community actually happen.
The fix
Take the politics out of it: end aldermanic control of speed humps, hold the new Department of Transportation to a clear standard, and keep funding quick-build fixes on Gravois, Marine, Arsenal and McNair.
What you’ll see
A street your kid can cross. A corner where neighbors run into each other. A way to reach your job, your groceries and your friends without a car.
