Jami Cox Antwi, 8th Ward Alderwoman

My record

What I ran on.
What I’ve done.

In 2025 I ran on three things: stronger neighborhoods, safer streets, and a city that works. Here is each one, a year in, and what comes next.

01

Stronger neighborhoods

What I said in 2025

I said I’d turn vacant properties into homes, local businesses and community spaces, and cut the red tape that slows good projects down.

What I’ve done

  • Clinton-Peabody has a brand-new tenant organization. I’m seeking Office of Violence Prevention funding to bring programming there, and to LaSalle Park next.
  • Broadway Bluffs, in Mount Pleasant, formed a new neighborhood organization. My office has worked with its leaders on nuisance properties.
  • Rezoned 2861–69 McNair from commercial to multi-family housing. Ord. 72047, my bill.
  • Co-sponsored citywide ADU zoning (Ord. 72036), the $1M Impacted Tenants Fund (Ord. 72056) and the CDC certification framework (Ord. 72180).

Year two

Streamline the systems that make rebuilding hard, bring in resources for more affordable, walkable neighborhoods, and back community-led art, gardens and activation.

02

Safer streets

What I said in 2025

I said I’d fast-track traffic calming and street designs that protect children, seniors, walkers and cyclists.

What I’ve done

  • Speed humps on the 2100 block of Victor. Ord. 72070, my bill.
  • Marine Ave made one-way southbound on the 3600–3700 blocks. Ord. 72066, my bill.
  • New crossing signals and bump-outs on Gravois in Benton Park and McKinley Heights. Co-sponsored the Gravois quick-build safety resolution (Res. 197).
  • Funded projects on Marine Ave, Arsenal and McNair. South Broadway is being repaved through Marine Villa and Soulard, and the Chouteau cycle track is underway in Lafayette Square.

Year two

Take political pressure out of neighborhood safety, starting with ending aldermanic control of speed humps.

03

A city that works

What I said in 2025

I said I’d cut red tape, modernize city processes, and fight for reliable services in every neighborhood.

What I’ve done

  • Passed BB 155, implementing the state’s new Entertainment District downtown: new lighting and safety measures. Ord. 72135, my bill.
  • Helped pass the Rams settlement legislation: tornado recovery dollars for North City, and new funding for downtown, the riverfront and the area near our sports venues.
  • Put the earnings tax renewal on the ballot. Ord. 72067, my bill, with 12 co-sponsors.
  • Dissolved the Municipal Bridge Commission (Ord. 72122, my bill). I serve on the Special Committee on Reducing Red Tape.

Year two

Keep removing political red tape from basic city processes.

I write about all of this, in plain language.
